After scanning the D&C Sunday, May 4, 2008, I came across an article about colleges allowing coed dorm rooms. What was very distressing was the fact that one of the colleges was Connecticut's Wesleyan University. John Wesley, the founder of Methodism and namesake of the University was a popular preacher and a national leader. So I wanted to know more about this man and what he stood for. The information that was collected from Fox's Book Of Martyrs and is as follows:
He (John Wesley)ascribed it, under God, to the fact that he had always slept soundly, had risen for sixty years at four o'clock in the morning, and for fifty years had preached every morning at five. He preached twice each day, and often thrice or four times. It has been estimated that he traveled every year forty-five hundred English miles, mostly upon horseback.The Wesley fellowship, which after his death grew into the great Methodist Church, was characterized by an almost military perfection of organization. He planned for the mental culture of his traveling preachers and local exhorter's, and for schools of instruction for the future teachers of the Church. He himself prepared books for popular use upon universal history, church history, and natural history. In this Wesley was an apostle of the modern union of mental culture with Christian living.
The question that I asked myself was, is this the future he envisioned for the students of this school that claims "John Wesley, the founder of Methodism and namesake of the University"? This man who worked so hard for Christ, and with faith, prepared the preachers and local exhorter's, and for schools of instruction for the future teachers of the Church!
Jeremiah 32:33 And they have turned unto me the back, and not the face: though I taught them, rising up early and teaching them, yet they have not hearkened to receive instruction.
This article quotes Erik Youngdahl and Michelle Garcia as stating that they have their beds arranged side by side like Ricky and Lucy in I Love Lucy. Wait, weren't Ricky and Lucy married? Then they stated that when one is changing their cloths the other averts their eyes. As a man, I can say confidently that I could not last long in that promise. The peeking started with hide and seek when I was 4.
Mathew 5:28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.
1 Corinthians 7:2 Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband.
Youngdahl also stated "that once you actually live in it, it doesn't turn into a big deal". Now here is some advise from a 20 year old Sophomore, NO BIG DEAL. If its NO BIG DEAL then why does the bible talk about protecting your eyes, staying a virgin until marriage, not committing adultery. I wonder if the leaders of this university believe its NO BIG DEAL I wondered if this university teaches evolution, or if they have banned the BIBLE! So I looked up the president in their web sight to see what he had to say. Michael S. Roth became the 16th president of Wesleyan University on July 1,2007. Formerly president of California College of the Arts, Roth is known as a historian, curator and author. Roth describes his scholarly interests as centered on "how people make sense of the past" (obviously he thought it to be nonsense). I also looked up some of the Alumni and found some interesting things. Many are film and television directors, news editors, news correspondents, educators, and book writers. Again note, they have many platforms to to state their positions, opinions, and ideas to the world.
Peter 2:1-3 But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction. And many will follow their destructive ways, because of whom the way of truth will be blasphemed. By covetousness they will exploit you with deceptive words; for a long time their judgment has not been idle, and their destruction does not slumber.
The article goes on, some gay students who feel more comfortable rooming with the opposite sex are taking advantage of the option. So this school has a homosexual community. I don't think this school teaches the Word of God. If it did, I would think the homosexual community would avoid it or protest it not enjoy the benefits this school has to offer. Gods word on this matter is a message most of these people would not want to hear.
1Corinthians 6:9 Or don't you know that the unrighteous will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Don't be deceived. Neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor male prostitutes, nor homosexuals,nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.
This university is no more than a breeding school for sin. Again Christianity's hands slip down the rope a little more. John Wesley would not be happy or glad that his name is attached to such a place. But we still need to remember that God is in control and we place our faith in him. Jesus Christ will come back and settle all accounts
Matthew 12:36 I tell you that every idle word that men speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment.
Please pray for our schools and our educators to teach the things of God. Pray for the parents that accept this sinful behavior. Amen
