April 25, 2008 A Fasting and Prayer Day

April 25, 2008 will be just another day for most of us, but for the children in middle and high schools, and some colleges, they will have to deal with “The Day of Silence” sponsored by GLSEN (Gay Lesbian & Straight Education Network). This day according to them is a day to bring attention to anti-LGBT, name calling and bulling, citing that 4 out of 5 LGBT students experience harassment at school.

On a personal note, I remember when I was in school being harassed by the jocks, I wonder if LGBT’s are being harassed because they are not jocks? I also remember kids ripping my fairy loop off my button down shirts, now that definitely scarred me as a child. I also was a fat kid and was mocked and harassed and called tubby tuba. Funny thing is I never asked for a special day or join a group of fat kids so we could go to school and make them have a pity party for us. Though it did not feel good at the time, it did give me incentive to start working out and exercising while watching what I ate.

GLSEN claims that “The day is a positive educational experience”. Many schools allow students’ participation throughout the day. Some schools ask students to speak as they normally would during class and remain silent during breaks and at lunch. There is no single way to participate, and students are encouraged to take part in the way that is the most positive and uplifting for their school.

My question is will they really be silent? Or will this be another opportunity to tell Christians that we will not tolerate a God who will not tolerate an alternative life style. They believe it will be a positive educational experience. Do the rest of us believe that posturing and cowering to a few outspoken individuals is positive? How is it educational, showing the wickedness of man? GLSEN wants the rest of the world to believe that something so unnatural is natural and ok to practice. But God states clearly that he abhors it.

Leviticus 18:22 Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.

Genesis 18:20-21 20 And the LORD said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous; 21 I will go down now, and see whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it, which is come unto me; and if not, I will know.

Genesis 19: 4-7 4 But before they lay down, the men of the city, even the men of Sodom, compassed the house round, both old and young, all the people from every quarter: 5 And they called unto Lot, and said unto him, Where are the men which came in to thee this night? bring them out unto us, that we may know them. 6 And Lot went out at the door unto them, and shut the door after him, 7 And said, I pray you, brethren, do not so wickedly.

But we as Christians will turn the other cheek as they get in our face to mock us and our God. We pray to the Lord Jesus Christ to open their eyes and see their sin and ask for forgiveness. We pray for their salvation.

Joel 11-13 11 And the LORD shall utter his voice before his army: for his camp is very great: for he is strong that executeth his word: for the day of the LORD is great and very terrible; and who can abide it? 12 Therefore also now, saith the LORD, turn ye even to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning: 13 And rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the LORD your God: for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repenteth him of the evil.

We ask everyone to fast and pray this day for these people that practice this sin and try to justify and make it not look like sin. God still loves them and would like to see them repent and follow him.

Joel 14-15 14 Who knoweth if he will return and repent, and leave a blessing behind him; even a meat offering and a drink offering unto the LORD your God? 15 Blow the trumpet in Zion, sanctify a fast, call a solemn assembly:

Let us turn the other cheek this day, April 25, 2008 and pray that Jesus Christ changes their hearts. Amen
